A Day in Berlin, Germany - Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag and the Federal Chancellor Building, etc...

Berlin is the capitol city of Germany and a popular historical destination for tourists, especially since the opening of the Berlin Wall in 1989. The Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag and the chancellor building are all within a few minutes walk from each other. The Berlin zoo hosts

Berlin Zoo
The Berlin zoo is a beautiful green retreat in the heart of the city. The zoo has about 1440 (+,-) different species of animals, birds and fish and below is just a small selection of the animals to be found at the zoo.

Knut the Famous Polar Bear of the Berlin Zoo
The Berlin Zoo made it into the world headline news in 2006 and 2007 because of the famous polar bear Knut who was abandoned by his mother and hand raised by zoo employees.

Knut was born on the 5th of December, 2006. After Knut and his brother were rejected from their mother Tosca after birth, zoo employees decided to take over caring for him. His brother did not survive and it was unknown if Knut would make it. The story of Knut touched the world as some suggested that he be put to sleep instead of being hand fed and raised in a zoo. The zoo swore to help and protect Knut and the zookeeper Thomas Dörflein stayed with Knut the first months of his life. After reaching 8 kilograms of weight, he was shown to the public for the first time in what was called the Knut show. Millions have since come by the Berlin zoo since to see Knut.

Knut has become the official environmental symbol of the dangers and consequences of global warming. His presence reminds us all of our responsibilities to do what we can to help him and other animals in danger of extinction due to the climate change.
