If you like shopping, the Mönkebergstrasse is a great street to find many shops and stores. Closeby, you will also find the four story shopping mall called the Europa Passage. If you head to the Rathausplatz from there, you will see the large city hall building. From there you can head in the direction of the harbour which is about another 10-15 minute walk. Along the way, you will see the St. Nikolai Church. Its ruins symbolize the destruction of the last war in Europe. Near the Hamburg Harbour, you will arrive at the “Speicherstadt” - a row of storage buildings where earlier shipping companies used to store their goods. Nowadays, many tourist attractions are situated in the buildings such as the “Hamburger Dungeon”, the a coffee roasting company, a huge miniature train attraction and much more. Once at the harbour, you can observe the ships docked and the steam boats offering rides to the tourists around the harbour area. The harbour with its steam boat rides is very popular amongst tourists, as well as the musical “The Lion King” which can be seen across the harbour. Four times a year, the “Hamburger Dom” (a large fair) can be seen. Famous is the Hamburger Fish Market if you would like to try the fresh catch of the day. The “Reeperbahn” (the red light distric near the harbour in St. Pauli) attracts also a great amount of tourists yearly.
St. Nikolai Church in Hamburg, Germany The St. Nikolai Church and Memorial is dedicated to the vicitms of war and persecution between 1939-1945. It was built between 1845-1874 from plans of Sir Gilbert Scott of London. The church was destroyed in 1943 and symbolizes the destruction of the last war in Europe. Amazingly intact is the church tower, which was once the highest in the world a century ago. Many of the outside walls and some of the inside walls are still to be seen as well. Today, tourists can ride up an elevator to the top of the impressive church tower and see a view of Hamburg from above.
Hamburg Dom The Hamburg Dom is a quarter yearly festival. It can be compated to a state fair and is full of attractions for the whole family.
Reeperbahn The red light district of Hamburg-St. Pauli is probably the most famous of Germany.
