Visiting the Grand Canyon in Arizona - The Horseshoe Bend

Custom Search

When driving from Flagstaff in the direction of Page, Arizona, you will find a small sign on the right hand side of the road indicating that the Horseshoe Bend is to the left. It is hard to imagine it as you only see a hill. There is a parking lot to the left and a pathway leading up the hill. You will follow this pathway which is not too difficult to climb.

As you get over the hill, you can see where the bend is located and you will head towards it. In the summer, it can be really hot so take plenty to drink with you. The trail is a bit downhill so it was comfortable to walk.

It is worth the walk. When you get to the bend, it is like the pictures in the travel books. The Colorado River is calm and green in the summer. Every now and then a speedboat or a tourist boat would come around the curve to break the silence.

The view is amazing and breathtaking. The heat of the day makes the Colorado River look inviting to take a dip in.

Around you, the layers of stone tell you their story, it is a fascinating landscape and simply everything you will expect. The trail back to the car is uphill and the heat is torturing but worth the trip.
