Praia do Castelo (Castle Beach) in Portugal

This area consists of several beaches, coves and lots of cliffs to walk along above them all. The trail takes you through lovely landscapes with impressive views. It is a wonderful way to spend a day and is not too far from Albufeira.

Praia do Castelo 1

This is the beach of Castelo. Though we parked here, we simply wanted to first enjoy the scenery around this beach. All of these beaches in this area are quite close together actually. Our journey took us later to Praia da Coelha where we did spend a few hours at. We could have actually driven to the second beach from here, but decided to walk the distance and enjoy the view below from the cliffs.

The view is fantastic no matter where you look.

Praia do Castelo 3
Some of the beaches only seem to be accessable from the water. We found no way to get down to some of them.

Around each bend a new impressive landscape can be seen. In the distance is the beach we walked to.

This lonely beach is surrounded by beautiful cliffs.

Down in the center area of some of these cliffs are pools of water.

This is another deep cliff we passed while heading towards Praia da Coelha.

Praia do Castelo 8
This rock formation looks like it could be found in the south west of the USA, such as the Snow Canyon in Utah.

The landscape is simply breathtaking.

Praia do Castelo 10
We continued towards the Praia da Coelha and enjoyed the view along the way. It was a bit tricky finding the access to that beach though. There was a small wooded area we found and were able to go through it and then we could go on the ramp leading down to the beach. The simplest way to go to the Praia da Coelha would be to drive to it.
