“Praia da Falesia” or Cliff Beach, Portugal

This beach is a short drive from the city of Albufeira and is a lovely area to spend a relaxing day. If you have ever wanted to spend time at a beach that has a fantastic backdrop, this is the one for you.

There is a road you can park on when you arrive at the beach. Parking was for free, though the spaces can be limited during the summer. We were there in June of 2018 and found a spot with no problems. You will walk a little until you reach the area where you can go down. While walking, you can also go to the rim and enjoy the view below. This is the beach looking approximately northwest (in the direction of Albufeira).

The other direction is facing approximately southeast (in the direction of Vilamoura).

There are a few steps to go down once you reach the beach.

You can rent a space with sun protection or can walk much further and set up your space as you like. The further you walk, the less people you will see.

When you are sitting and looking at the water, it seems like any other beach. Turn around and you are amazed at the scenery behind you. The whole coastline looks so impressive and it is worth to go near the cliffs to see them close up.

This is a view of the beach from the water. During the month of June 2018, it was not crowded at all and we sometimes actually had the feeling we had the beach all to ourselves.

The colors are so gorgeous and the closer you walk to the cliffs, one has a feeling of being somewhere in the canyon landcapes of the states of Nevada or Utah.

You can walk for miles and continue seeing this scenery. It is like having a canyon landscape and a beach all in one. Notice how empty the beach looks. It is because we walked quite a distance to get to this point. The quiet was enjoyable. Several people walked along the coast but all in all we had a peaceful area to enjoy the nature and listen to the ocean.

The cliff walls have somehow a feeling of the Bryce Canyons in Utah and make this beach even more spectacular.

This was taken while we were walking back to the car. The landscape never ceased to amaze us.
